Photography workshop anyone?

Published under CC courtesy b1ur / Eugene Yurevich on Flickr

Are you interested, or do you know anyone that would be interested in taking part in photography workshops here at Light House?

Do you need to know the basics of  photography?  -  Do you look at your camera’s manual and think what the heck does “aperture” “ISO” “shutter speed” actually mean? Would you like hints and tips on landscape or portrait photography? or Would you like information on how to light subjects?

We need to know….

We’re planning on organising some workshops in the near future and if you’re interested we’d like your  suggestions on things YOU would like to see covered!

If you would like to register your interest, or have a suggestion please  leave a comment on the blog or email kathryn@light-house.co.uk.

  1. Kathryn

I’d be interested in more advanced workshops and certainly workshops that cover more advanced levels of photo manipulation.

Also anything that would enable us to play with different pieces of kit. I’m looking for a small studio set up (couple of lights, umbrellas and a backdrop) so anything that let us experiment with that sort of thing would be really useful.

So I suppose what I’m saying is… advanced please.

  3. I’d be interested, but probably something a little more basic than Dave (above) is looking for! I’d be particularly interested in something that covered manual slr not just digital photography. Cheers.

  4. I would love to!!
I know the (very) basics of how my digital SLR works
but would like to know more of how to take good pictures, like portraits, landscape, macro etc.

  6. I’m used to shooting outdoors in natural light, so it would be very useful for me to be able to learn more about the opposite to that – indoor/studio lighting techniques, particularly for portraiture, fashion, etc. My indoor shooting usually relies simply on using a wide aperture, which isn’t always ideal.

Alternatively, my outdoor photography could benefit from an advanced landscapes course.

  7. Been photographing with a DSLR for the last year or so, already picked up a couple of qualifications for photography and digital image manipulation but would possibly like to do more.

I’d personally like a medium/advanced digital manipulation workshop to improve my skills in that area, already gone through the basics but not confident with much past that. Would also like the same as Dave Taylor above which is to get my hands on studio equipment and have a proper play with it (with proper instruction too of course).

Might be an idea to have a quick course dedicated to the basic camera functions and important things such as framing, composition, lighting and so on. Once that course has been done and people have a taster you could get them on to a more advanced course.

Whether you want people to bring their own equipment or you’ll supply it depends on the type of course I guess. Point and shoots are perfect learning tools and entry level DSLR’s are both fantastic tools and priced pretty reasonably these days so I’m not sure which route you might want to take.

That’s my thoughts for now. Hope you get something running in the near future.

  8. most of my time is spent covering gigs and the studio is still quite alien to me, so i’d def be interested workshops that cover studio lighting and basic lighting setups.

  12. A lovely idea – learning always is. We have our own little photo studio on site (about 18ft x 12ft) and our own Wolves alumni photo graduate teacher who also covers all this sort of training (running several courses here, at his own studio and at the Botanical Gardens) so if you ever need guest teachers / lecturers he also does advanced photoshop courses etc.

Cheers for looking us up and if there is anything we can help with give us a shout.

  14. Further to my previous comment…it seems to me, from reading what has been said, that there is a desire to learn just about everything! I would therefore like to suggest that classes/lessons are aimed separately at beginners and advanced camera users, in a variety of categories. Mobile phone camera users, as well as dslr and compact camera beginners, might benefit from learning the ‘rules’ of composition and how to use the basic manual functions of their kit (using shutter speed, aperture and iso effectively, for example), whilst those who already know their dslr cameras well and are already experienced photographers might benefit from the more advanced ideas that are mentioned here, particularly studio photography and indoor lighting.

  15. A great idea, but i think the classes should be held at night, or at the weekend, so people who work all day can attend.
    Cheers.
