Training & Education

We offer a range of part-time accredited media courses and workshops covering Video Production, Animation and Multimedia. The courses aim to support clients to develop a mixture of skills including personal, creative and technical, enabling them to progress either into the media industries or higher education.

 

We can also offer technical upskilling courses for those already established within the industry, including Final Cut Pro & Avid editing, After Effects, lighting for film and television, camera training as well as specific animation software skills such as Toon Boom, 3D Studio Max, Flash, and traditional animation techniques using Stop Motion Pro. All courses are delivered by media industry professionals using industry standard production equipment.

We are an expert provider of structured and bespoke professional development in High Definition production techniques, which enable UK based filmmakers and broadcast engineers to widen their skills base, as well as allowing independent production companies to access this knowledge transfer at a competitive rate. As a centre for High Definition in the West Midlands, Light House also offers equipment hire services and showcasing opportunities through our digital screen.

Women’s Workshops

We also offer a range of workshops for women, covering a range of production techniques.  These are delivered by Nerina Villa, an experienced documentary director who has made films for Channel 4 and regional ITV and has been shortlisted for a Royal Television Society Award.

10 Week Evening Workshops

Light House are offering  3 ‘hands on’ courses with an emphasis on creativity and accessibility to relevant resources to develop your ideas further.  Each course lasts 10 weeks and will enable you to work in an inspirational atmosphere with other like-minded individuals. These courses will provide you with the opportunity to build on your creative confidence and explore those ideas you’ve always wanted to make a reality.

Introduction to Traditional Animation
Mondays 6 – 9pm, Cost: £190+VAT

Animator and tutor Steve Poultney will focus on different aspects of traditional animation techniques e.g hand drawn, montage, Stop Motion and digital 2D techniques.

Introduction to Film Studies – The Essentials
Tuesdays 6 – 9pm, Cost: £100+VAT

Led by Canadian born Film Studies Lecturer, Kimberly Forlini-Softley, Introduction to Film Studies – The Essentials explores the basic areas of film covering genre, narrative, the history of cinema, the basics of cinematography, editing, sound and mis en scene.

Introduction to Video Production Techniques
Thursdays 6 – 9pm, Cost: £190+VAT

Delivered by our in-house Video Production tutor, Jon Turner, this course is ideal for those wanting to learn the basics of video production.

We aim to be the regions centre for media education at all levels. Our life long learning remit is to encourage creativity through the experience of video, short film and animation production. Our specialist media knowledge is transferred through practical workshops, information, advice and guidance, accredited training, bespoke specialist courses and master classes. Light House’s aim is to support all platforms of learning, from young people, new entrants through to established creative enterprises.

Media Education

Light House has been supported to develop its media and film education activity and establish itself as an Education Hub through Screen WM’s Investment Fund with funds from The National Lottery through the UK Film Council.

In addition to our regular bespoke training we are currently a provider for Wolverhampton’s Creative and Media Diploma for 14 – 19 year olds and a member of the Diploma Management Network.
